We will be ready

MONAGHAN'S midfield talisman, Darren Hughes, can't think of any place he'd rather be than Croke Park against the Dubs next weekend - even though the rest of the country is banking on another Sky Blue victory parade.

The bookies have priced the Sam Maguire holders at 1/20 to win next Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final, but Hughes has taken Dublin's invincible tag in his stride.

"Ach, well, they're All-Ireland champions on merit and played some great football this year," he told The Herald. "They have great players and a great bench at their disposal.

"We'll sit down and analyse and get the legs ready as best as possible for next week."

Hughes is refusing to use Monaghan's seven-day turnaround - since last Saturday's extra-time slugfest with Kildare - as a ready-made excuse for whatever happens next.

"You're in an All-Ireland quarter-final; you're not going to start complaining. It's a great place to be," he stressed.
