We are Dublin Summer Cup proves successful initiative

The success of the We are Dublin Summer Cup has ensured it should stay as an integral part of the camogie programme for years to come.

The Summer Cup is put in place to give club players who are not on Dublin county panels good competitive games during the Summer months.

Results can often at times be hard to predict as clubs play without their Senior, Premier Junior, Junior A and Minor A county players.

It has been very enjoyable and successful and has benefited the development of players within the county.

The highlight of the initiative was the final in the Senior 1-3 category where Kilmessan produced an exceptional performance in defeating a brave Lucan Sarsfields selection by 6-15 to 3-7 at O'Toole Park.

Central to Kilessan's success was the sublime display of Katie Ní Choileáin with the conner-forward adorning the afternoon with four goals in the first-half.

Lucan battled gamely throughout to remain in contention with Laura Murtagh, Amber O'Connor and subs Orlaith Murphy and Emma O'Flynn all featuring prominently but the Meath outfit proved deserving winners on the day.

O'Toole Park was also host to a thrilling We are Dublin Summer Cup Senior 4-5 final with Erin's Isle snatching a 2-10 to 3-5 victory thanks to a goal by Stacy Shaw in the first period of extra-time.

Naomh Pádraig fought to the finish and only for heroic defending by the Isle's defence, they could have claimed the prize while Naomh Mearnóg will contest the Senior 6-7 final with their opponents yet to be decided.
