Walsh's goal key as Kieran's win the battle of Kilkenny

ST KIERAN'S Padraig Walsh -- brother of Hurler of the Year, Tommy -- scored the 44th-minute goal that turned the tide for his school and saw them to their first Leinster senior hurling championship final win title at this level in five years at Nowlan Park yesterday, thanks to a 2-14 to 1-10 win over Kilkenny CBS.

CBS had dominated the early stages of the second half and they were worth more than the 1-9 to 1-6 lead they held in the 41st minute. Then Kieran's got a point from driving midfielder James Gannon, that lifted their spirits.

And within seconds they were in the lead, thanks to Walsh who touched the ball into the net from the edge of the square and Kieran's were back in front (2-7 to 1-9) and they never looked back, outscoring their opponents 0-7 to 0-1 thereafter.
