Walsh echoes the legendary O'Hehir

MEMORIES of a teenage Micheal O'Hehir came flooding into view. Micheal was still a pupil at O'Connell's when he first stepped into the RTé commentary box.

He was to become an icon of his age. Perhaps the greatest GAA personality of his era. They said he could make the radio talk, and they were right.

Last Saturday, Shane Walsh (16) made his debut as the guest analyst on KCLR 96fm. It was the All-Ireland Colleges Senior Hurling 'A' final at Semple Stadium.

Shane is a fourth-year student at the Kilkenny hotbed of hurling, St Kieran's College. He's the youngest brother of the Top Cat, Tommy Walsh.

Shane's grandfather was the distinguished Kilkenny county secretary, Paddy Grace. As they say, it's in the black-and-amber blood.

Hopefully, this young master's voice will go on to resemble a journey that began when the legendary Micheal was still a schoolboy.
