Tribesmen rocked as Skehill quits the panel

GALWAY goalkeeper James Skehill has dramatically quit the county hurling squad, opting out after training last Friday night ahead of Sunday's league defeat by Kilkenny.

The Tribesmen's 2012 All-Ireland final 'keeper was vying with Colm Callanan for the No 1 jersey, but, after battling back from a serious shoulder injury, he has decided to walk away.

"There is no real spin to put on it at all, James just told us after training on Friday night that he wanted to leave the panel," explained selector Damien Curley.

"We spoke with him and tried to talk him round, but he was adamant he wanted to leave ... it is a strange time to go all right and I got a shock myself."
