Trainor injury a massive blow to Vincent's hopes

THE All-Ireland aspirations of St Vincent's have shipped a hammer blow with news that Ruairi Trainor has suffered what appears to be a serious ankle injury.

The Dublin county hurler, who has starred in a roving attacking role for the Vincent's footballers, is now set to miss their All-Ireland semi-final date with Ulster champions Ballinderry on February 15.

Contacted by The Herald today, his manager Tommy Conroy confirmed that Trainor is "in trouble" for the Newry game.

Conroy was unsure as to the exact damage caused, but pointed out the player has a history of ankle trouble (he suffered a dislocation in 2011) and added: "All I know is it's not good."

The injury occurred in a club training session, and it remains to be seen whether Trainor is facing a lengthy absence, one that could also impact on his later spring involvement with the Dublin hurlers.
