Top-class St Pat's secure narrow win over Vinnie's

SUNSHINE in O'Toole Park. Bright hurling too. A cracker. James 'Shiner' Brennan of Kilkenny and Dublin had the whistle. He let the river flow.

It was a famous result for St Patrick's in Group D of the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship.

And how well they deserved it. Their defending was top-class. And they have a super goalkeeper in Damien Gallagher.

He was so assured under the high ball and he made one vital stop in the second half.

Shane Stapleton was in top form from the frees. He didn't miss a putt all night. Pat's played with such spirit. Vincent's also brought conviction to the stage.

The teams were level three times. Pat's led at the tea, 1-8 to 1-6.

Vincent's got the opening goal at the road end after eight minutes when Alan Moore cut in along the right.

In first-half injury-time, Aidan Glennnon's goal gave the Palmerstown club their interval advantage.

And they maintained their tempo in a second period of rich excitement.
