Tommy guns for Stars scalp

NEW Dublin manager, Tommy Brown, is hoping for good weather and a worthy game in Stillorgan next Saturday.

The Jackies will face the OZO Dub All-Stars in the first game of the delayed attractive ladies football/camogie double-bill at the Kilmacud Crokes HQ (12.45).

Tommy is delighted to be back at ringside. He'll have Michael Ryan and Angie McNally alongside him.

"You'd miss the girls and all the banter," states Tommy, who was a selector under Gerry McGill for the last four years. "We hadn't met as a group for a couple of months, so it was nice making the phone calls and touching base again. Saturday gives us another chance to meet up. It's strange in a way not having much contact after spending seven or eight months together.

"We were meeting at least three times a week over such a long time. We were living in each other's pockets. Then, all of a sudden, it comes to an end and you don't know what to do with yourself.

"So all the girls are keen to get going. It should be an interesting match. They'll be playing against some of their friends and also some new girls. We have assembled a nice mixture of senior and young players, so we feel we'll be able to give the Dub All-Stars a good rattle."

Tommy's Blues possess a fair dash of polish. Maria Kavanagh and Sorcha Furlong are named in defence.

'Bangers' Kavanagh summed up what a true sportsperson is all about. She wasn't a regular in Dublin's first 15 this term. Yet she didn't go knocking on Gerry McGill's door or hand in a written transfer request. She just put the head down and kept on working.

Then the call came on the biggest day -- the All-Ireland final. And Marie settled as snugly back in the team as if she was sitting at home on her favourite sofa.

Tommy has engineered a bit of a commentators' nightmare at midfield -- two Niamh McEvoys, and no relation. Niamh of Parnells and Niamh of St Sylvester's.

They'll win plenty of ball. Turning it to profit will be ace attackers, Amy Connolly and Lyndsey Davey.
