Tipp county board laugh off Cody spat

1TIPPERARY county board chairman Sean Nugent has laughed off his touchline spat with Brian Cody during last Sunday's NHL final in Thurles, saying the Kilkenny manager "came in just looking for directions to his own dugout ... he said he was lost!"

On a more serious note, however, Nugent acknowledged Cody was "seriously annoyed" when he marched towards the Tipp dugout during the first half before verbals were exchanged. It is understood a remark was passed towards Cody from the Tipp bench – but not by Nugent.

1Monaghan could be without Conor McManus for six to eight weeks because of the ankle ligament damage sustained in a club match over the weekend. The All Star forward also suffered knee ligament damage but, following initial scans, he revealed: "The extent of that hasn't been determined. I don't think it is the cruciate so that gives me some hope."

1Mickey Burke's dual aspirations this summer appear at an end after he wasn't among the 25 hurlers listed for last Saturday's opening Christy Ring Cup win over Down in Trim. Burke had been part of both Royal panels, but the issue of conflicting training/playing schedules has now come to a head. Privately, some county board figures aren't happy with this outcome.
