Supple gets his chance for Dubs

SHANE Supple will finally get his chance to take on Stephen Cluxton for the Dublin goalkeeper's jersey after officially being called into the squad by new manager Jim Gavin.

Eamon Fennell is the highest-profile casualty of the incoming regime.

Gavin has met with the majority of Pat Gilroy's 2012 squad to outline his plans for next year but already, he has given the nod to former Ipswich Town stopper Supple (pictured) that he will be on board when training resumes early next month.

Supple returned to Ireland from a professional career in August 2009 and has had two, albeit both brief, stints on the Dublin panel since then.

However, he was firmly behind both Cluxton and Michael Savage in Gilroy's pecking order.

Cluxton will, despite recent speculation to the contrary, also be on board, which means that St Vincent's 'keeper Savage has been let go from the squad along with his clubmate, Fennell.

The latter started in all five of Dublin's Championship matches this summer but is easily the most established member of the panel to be told by Gavin that his services are no longer available.
