Students set to teach plucky Peregrine's a lesson

UCD will thread carefully here. Peregrine's pipped them in the Championship last year.

A last-minute penalty gave the Blakestown Boys a one-point win over St Anne's at Newcastle. The skilful Stuart Lowndes converted.

In the previous round, Peregrine's had beaten Whitehall. Robbie McCarthy's left peg lit up Parnell Park. Eoghan Jennings and Ciarán McGuinness were worthy co-conspirators.

Niall McCarthy, Declan Guinan, Stephen McGuinness, Karl O'Connor and Dave McGovern are other black and white minstrels.

Peregrine's are fit and they keep improving. Beating the Students for the second successive year would be some feather in the cap. Colm Forde and Dublin's Michael Fitzsimons were prominent in the College defence against Templeogue. Corner-forward Ciarán Kelly was lively, and Westmeath U-21 John Heslin impressed. As did Lorcan Smith, while Tommy Warburton struck a glorious point.

In the previous stage against Thomas Davis, John O'Loughlin, Ciarán Lyng and Donie Kingston helped to bring UCD through. The Belfield Bowl is some Pick and Mix counter. Peregrine's will have to be on the buzzers from the off. The University Challenge is always a tough one.
