St John's clip Peregrine's wings to progress

BALLINTEER ST JOHN'S edged out a combative St Peregrine's to progress to the next round of the Evening Herald Dublin SFC at the impressive surroundings of recently refurbished Newcastle.

Ballinteer led by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break, Padraig O'Connor was a major influence with four points from play.

Peregrine's started the second half on fire and bagged three points in three minutes, but a 44th-minute goal from Ciaran Judge put Ballinteer in front after he punched to the net from a Cormac O'Brien delivery.

St John's managed to hang on until the final whistle despite a great fight-back from Peregrine's, which was led by brilliant Dublin U21 star Robert McCarthy, who bagged seven points.
