St Gall's in referee objection

ST GALL’S are believed to have lodged an objection into the appointment of Joe McQuillan as referee for this Sunday’s Ulster club SFC clash against Crossmaglen.

McQuillan sent three players off (St Gall’s Karl Stewart, Crossmaglen duo of James Morgan and Johnny Hanratty) and flashed ten yellow cards in last year's quarter-final between the two sides.

“We were extremely unhappy with Joe's performance last year,” said St Gall's boss Lenny Harbinson. “Now that he is referring this game we are disappointed and extremely annoyed.”

Crossmaglen beat St Gall's 1-12 to 0-9 in the 2010 Ulster club championship tie at St Oliver Plunkett Park.

Harbinson, who expects the club's objection to be “ignored”, wants umpires to play a bigger role at Casement Park on Sunday.

“We felt there was a fair degree of off the ball stuff that went on in the opening 15 or 20 minutes in our match last year,” he added.

“Umpires need to help the referee - I felt they were under-utilised in that game.”
