Seánie set to seal Lilies move

THE GAA's most protracted transfer saga of recent times is set to come to an end this week when Seánie Johnston is expected to secure his move to Kildare.

Having submitted a second request to join Kildare club St Kevin's, thus making him eligible to play for the Lilies, Johnston's transfer is not expected to face the same objections from Cavan this time around and the former DCU student could link up with Kieran McGeeney's squad on their forthcoming training camp in Portugal. Asked whether there was any update following Kildare's promotion-clinching draw in Salthill on Sunday, Kieran McGeeney insisted: "His transfer went in but the GAA seem to be taking a harder stance on transfers these days."

Meanwhile, Monaghan's hurlers have threatened to pull out of Sunday's Allianz League Division 3A final against Fingal in Tullamore and the Nicky Rackard Cup unless their own county board accede to a list to demands. Manager Mattie Lennon quit after the scheduling of several club football fixtures in the run-up to their final which hindered the side's preparations.
