Rock immense as 'Mun outclass Erin's Isle

A SUPERB 11-point haul for Dean Rock helped Ballymun Kickhams record a routine victory over Erin's Isle in their Dublin SFC first round clash at Parnell Park last night.

Hot favourites entering the game, Paul Curran's men were made work hard for the opening half as their rivals showed plenty of endeavour.

However, once Isle's lost Cara MacAoghna to a second yellow card after only 23 minutes, their uphill task became even steeper and as time wore on their challenge began to fade.

Rock's opening two scores were quickly cancelled out by Niall Crossan and a monster effort from midfielder Collie Flynn. Kevin Leahy split the posts and another Rock brace pushed Ballymun clear once more. However they would not score again for 17 minutes as Isle's grew into the game.

The dismissal of MacAodhna appeared to motivate his team-mates, and fine points from Luke Sweetman and Johnny Noonan reduced the deficit. But the 'Mun finished the half strongly, three more from Rock points gave them a 0-8 to 0-5 interval lead.

Ballymun moved up a gear in the second half as their numerical advantage began to tell while Rock's accuracy from long range was superb.

The 'Mun can now look forward with confidence to a clash with St Pat's of Palmerstown in the next round.
