Rivals step into fundraising ring

THE gloves will be on for the Larriers and the Craobh next Saturday night at the Airside Arena in Swords.

They will climb into the ring for a big gala White Collar Boxing Night, and already they are turning up the heat. The build-up has seen the two old rivals throwing shapes before they begin to trade punches.

They have billed the joint fundraiser The Clash Of The Ash and they are predicting the atmosphere at The Wright Venue will rival that of the ExCeL Arena where the great Katie Taylor struck gold.

"We are all looking forward to it now," says O'Toole's chairman, Andy Cunningham. "The boxers have been training hard, so they'll certainly be ready for it.

"We have a long history of playing against each other out on the pitch, so when we climb through the ropes together that will add a bit of spice to what I'm sure will be a very entertaining night."

The chairman of Chiaráin's, Aidan O'Toole, echoes Andy's words. "Fair play to all the boxers, gents and ladies, who have volunteered to take part.

"It's a big commitment and we all appreciate it.

"It's a huge night for both clubs. It's a very important fundraiser and it also honours the memory of Warren O'Connor, who played for both clubs.

"The winning club will receive the Warren O'Connor trophy and I'm sure O'Toole's and Chiaráin's will do his memory proud.

"As the countdown continues, we are now asking all our members and friends to support the venture.

"As I say, it's a vital fundraiser for O'Toole's and Chiaráin's and we'd appreciate all the support that we can get."

The O'Toole's-Craobh promotion is sure to be a knockout as both clubs will go all out to be lords of the ring and the High Kings of the Malahide Road.
