Relentless Tower's hit top gear in Fianna rout

ROUND Tower's Lusk continued their impressive recent form as they recorded their fourth successive league win when overcoming Na Fianna by 1-14 to 0-8 in their Dublin Adult football League Division 5 encounter at Collinstown Lane on Sunday morning.

Na Fianna started strongly but the visitors responded well and a smartly-taken goal by Dermot Leech approaching half-time ensured Towers enjoyed a four-point interval advantage.

The North county side kept things tight at the back through the efforts of Declan Moore, George Leech and Seán Brennan while Timmy Doyle, Adam Caule and substitute Robert McGee kicked important scores for the eventual winners.

At the opposite end of the table, a 50th-minute goal from Christy Mooney ensured Erin's Isle their first success of the campaign when accounting for Naomh Barróg by 1-12 to 0-9.

Goalkeeper Dean Curley proved a hero for the hosts, saving a twice-taken penalty and with Eamonn Byrne excelling defensively, Isle clinched their win through important scores from Adam Whelan, James Carroll and Eoin Connaughton.

In AFL6, Evan Kennedy kicked six points from midfield when helping Castleknock to get the better of O'Toole's by 0-16 to 1-3 at Somerton Park.

Daragh McKiernan and goalkeeper James McLoughlin kept things tight at the back for the hosts who benefited from an impressive first-half display by Jack Kiernan and eventually pulled away thanks to points from Paul Hughes and substitute Ciaran Millmore.

There was another home victory in Broomfield as goals from Conor Mullarkey, Gareth McGrath and Pearse Gibney proved crucial as St Sylvester's defeated Civil Service by 4-8 to 1-9.

Reuben Kirrane showed well in the unaccustomed role of full-back for Syls who remain in the promotion spots thanks to six points shared by Kevin Casey and Daniel McEvoy.
