Ravens fly high to beat Parnell's

Fingal Ravens overcame the disappointment of their first-round loss by defeating Parnell's 2-10 to 0-7 in their Dublin Senior 'B' Football Championship clash in Rolestown last Saturday teatime.

The foundation for the home victory lay in the solidity of Fingal's full-back line with Danny Murphy, Ross Begg and Adam Lawless all excelling over the hour.

The visitors struggled for large parts, despite the positive contribution of Stephen Cluxton. With Ciaran Norton excelling in attack, Ravens confirmed their win through goals by Niall Tormey and Derek Daly.

There was another home win in Monastery Road as Round Tower Clondalkin proved far too strong for Templeogue Synge Street, prevailing by 1-18 to 1-8.

Jason Joyce was the star of the home attack, accruing 1-7 in total including 1-3 from open play.

Joyce received valuable support in attack from Micheál Walsh, Mick Hallows and Stephen McGibney while there were other solid defensive contributions by Seán Ó Donnagáin, Niall Byrne and Tom Lyons, with Liam Connolly delivering an exceptional midfield display for Towers.

On a bad day for Synger, an ankle injury to Denis Bastick was another injury concern to undermine their chances, given the long-term absence of both Eoghan O'Gara and Killian O'Gara from their panel.

It proved far tighter in Finglas as Cuala required extra-time to eventually get the better of Erin's Isle by 1-16 to 2-11.

In a contest that ebbed and flowed throughout, the individual battle of Cuala's full-back Eoghan Breathnach and Isle's full-forward Luke Sweetman highlighted the excitement on offer over the hour.

A late free from goalkeeper Darren McBrien forced extra-time and with Seán Drummond, Colm Sheanon and Matthew Clancy to the fore, Cuala secured the win through a Dara Spillane goal.

SFC 'B': Fingal Ravens 2-10 Parnell's 0-7; Erin's Isle 2-11 Cuala 1-16; St Mary's 2-8 O'Toole's 1-6; Round Tower Clondalkin 1-18 Templeogue Synge Street 1-8.
