Possible exodus of trio 'huge loss': Jim

DUBLIN U21 football manager Jim Gavin is adamant that the possible exodus of three members of his panel to Australia would be a 'huge loss' to the county.

The Australian Football League have already cast their eye over the talents of Dublin's Emmet Ó Conghaile, Ciarán Kilkenny (inset) and Jack McCaffrey and Gavin is not a bit surprised.

"They're very ambitious young men and you wouldn't blame them if they accepted such a great opportunity but they would certainly be a huge loss to Dublin GAA if they did go," said Gavin.

It is believed that Kilkenny has been offered a rookie contract once he has completed his Leaving Cert and McCaffrey is due to fly out for a two-week trial when his exams are over.

"I've been working with them for 11 weeks now and all three are very intelligent footballers so I can't say I'm surprised that their talents are being recognised elsewhere," Gavin added.

"Their game management is superb and they are all very grounded lads who are a credit to their families but for Jack and Ciarán in particular, the Leaving Certificate should be their most pressing concern."
