Portlaoise make it six on the trot

PORTLAOISE remain the all-conquering kings of Laois football after winning their sixth consecutive county SFC crown. The hot favourites never looked back after Brian McCormack's eighth-minute goal and ran out comprehensive 1-13 to 0-9 winners over Arles-Kilcruise.

KILLOE YOUNG EMMETS are Longford SFC champions for the first time in 17 years after finally dethroning Longford Slashers. Yesterday's replay went to extra-time before the challengers came with a decisive scoring burst to win by 0-15 to 0-12, county star Sean McCormack leading the way with 0-8 (4f).

BALLAGHADERREEN have promised a concerted assault on the Connacht club championship after capturing the Mayo SFC title at MacHale Park, where a brilliant defensive display saw them eclipse three-in-a-row chasing Ballintubber by 1-9 to 0-4. Barry Kelly capped victory in injury-time with a gifted open goal, but the holders had already run out of attacking ideas.
