Pacy Boden surge past Clanna Gael for semi spot

BALLYBODEN ST ENDA'S needed to win to progress to the Tesco Senior Championship semi-final. They did – beating Clanna Gael Fonetenoy, 1-12 to 1-7 at Páirc Uí Mhurchú.

Fingallians, Na Fianna and St Brigid's are also in the last four.

Boden bolted for home in the second half after trailing 1-6 to 0-5 at the break. It was another absorbing match, high on tempo and skill.

Boden had plenty of pace in the legs. Katie Murphy could outsprint Jessica Ennis. The Ringsenders defended brilliantly.

The opening goal came in the ninth minute at the Ball Alley end. Aisling McCabe cut in from the left. Her jersey was being pulled but she still managed to loft the ball into the far corner. Good refereeing from Keith Tighe.

Only 10 seconds were gone in the second half when Gemma Fay left her fingerprints all over the result. She grabbed the ball from the throw-in and set off on a powerful surge to score a critical point.

Five minutes later, Natalia Hyland struck the perfect penalty, low to the right. Boden then hit a blue and white patch, sending over four emails without reply, from the boots of Grainne Archbold, Ruth Gillen, Una McGinn and Hyland.

A Lynn Flood free was the visitors' only score of the second half. That made it 1-10 to 1-7. Clanns kept battling, but further strikes from Sarah O'Brien and Gillen cemented Boden's passage to the last four.
