O'Moore too strong for Carlow men

GOALS from Willie Hyland and Zane Keenan steered Laois safely in a Leinster SHC semi-final against Galway following their 2-18 to 0-13 victory over Carlow at O'Moore Park yesterday.

Carlow were always going to have a hill to climb against their more favoured hosts but made the mission impossible by having three players sent off - straight red cards were flashed to Shane Kavanagh, and sub Paul Coady, while Jack Kavanagh sent for two yellows.

John Meyler's men hurled well in the opening half, particularly in the opening quarter but Hyland's goal had the O'Moore County men in front at the interval, 1-7 to 0-7.

On the restart Laois took control of the game and hit a purple patch that reaped seven points without reply, including a huge free from just outside his own 45-metre line by Matthew Whelan.

However, entering the concluding quarter Carlow had battled back to leave six points between the sides.

But Keenan's stunning free sealed victory before Carlow imploded with the sendings off in the last five minutes.
