PARNELL'S 1-13, RAHENY 1-5
NINE points from Johnny Murtagh helped Parnell's to comfortably see off the challenge of neighbours Raheny in yesterday's Evening Herald Dublin SFC clash at Parnell Park.
A cagey opening saw wayward shooting from both sides before Raheny's John Ryan and Armagh man Murtagh found the target.
Parnell's began to exert some control at the start of the second quarter and when Laois senior MJ Tierney combined with Niall Collins to put Andreas Doyle through on goal, the Wexford county player made no mistake with a stunning right-foot finish to the net.
Two points from Tierney put his side firmly in the driving seat before a Colm Woods point gave Raheny hope at the break as they trailed 1-7 to 0-5.
Indeed, they got themselves right back into the game within minutes of the restart. Dublin's David Henry sent a dangerous ball across the goalmouth that spilled kindly to David Shatwell who finished to the net.
Raheny enjoyed some good possession during this period but failed to translate it into scores on the board. The winners finished in emphatic fashion as five points over the concluding 10 minutes -- including four from Murtagh, along with a John Peyton effort -- secured their passage through to a last 16 date with St Sylvester's.
