Murphy's goal gives Carlow win

Carlow triumphed over visitors Longford by a goal, fisted in by half-forward John Murphy in the 49th minute, in their opening clash at Dr Cullen Park, winning by 1-10 to 0-10.

The sides were level at 0-4 apiece following a forgettable first period which witnessed plenty of wayward shooting.

However, the encounter sparked into life after the break and Murphy's goal gave the home side the impetus to go on to claim the victory.

In Cusack Park, Clare saw off Wicklow by the narrowest of margins, triumphing 1-9 to 0-11.

Clare's goal came from Gearoid Lynch in the second half, but they still had to rely on a last-gasp score from David Tubridy to claim the spoils.

In Ballinamore, Waterford proved too strong for Leitrim, winning 0-13 to 0-10 despite Robert Ahern missing a second-half penalty.

Elsewhere, Limerick eased to a routine 0-17 to 1-4 victory over London at Ruislip.
