Murphy's goal crucial to keeping Kilmacud on summit

Kilmacud Crokes strengthened their lead at the top of the Dublin Adult Hurling League Division 1 following a 1-13 to 2-8 win over Naomh Mearnóg in Portmarnock on Saturday evening.

In a curtailed night of fixtures in Division 1, the league leaders produced an accomplished display with Adrian Grogan, Rob O'Loughlin, Naomhán Ó Ríordáin and full-forward James Burke to the fore as Seán Murphy's goal helped seal Kilmacud's eighth win of the campaign. At Clonshaugh, Na Fianna eased their relegation fears as a strong second-half performance helped them to a comprehensive 2-17 to 0-11 win over St Vincent's.

Na Fianna led by 0-9 to 0-6 at the interval with Tom Bergin and Dublin minor Denis Forde impressing in attack while wing-back John Burke excelled in his defensive duties.

The game opened up after half-time with Daire Ó Maoiléadaigh bagging a brace of goals for the Glasnevin men and further points from Bergin and Forde, augmented by strong showings from Eoin O'Leary, Stephen Fitzgerald and Aidan Kehoe, ensured the win for the visitors.

In Division 2, Setanta took advantage of a seriously depleted Naomh Barróg to register a comprehensive 5-18 to 0-7 victory.

The recently returned Dara de Búrca and Jason Ó Buachalla hit four points and five points from play respectively, while all six forwards scored from play, with substitute Mick Kelly adding the fifth goal. The visitors were denied a deserved goal when Declan Butler dived full length to deny Shane McDermott five minutes from time to cement a crucial win for the Ballymun side. Two early goals by Ger Dodrill and another from Carl Turner helped Naomh Fionnbarra record a deserved win over league leaders Cuala with John Bailey, Billy Hyland and Sean Mac Donnacha all making notable contributions for the Cabra side.
