McNamee makes Eoin pay

St Mary's Edenderry 1-14, Coláiste Eoin 2-10

Coláiste Eoin failed in their attempt to win their first provincial title in 14 years as Ruairi McNamee's late point gave St Mary's, Edenderry a one-point win in their enthralling Leinster Colleges SF 'A' Championship final in Navan last Saturday afternoon.

Two first-half goals from Dublin hurlers Colm O Croinín and Oisín O Ruairc more than cancelled out Cian McMonagle's fifth-minute goal for St Mary's, as the Stillorgan outfit enjoyed a 2-4 to 1-4 interval lead.

The Edenderry school did, however, improve in the second half. The influential Ger Leech, Mark Nolan, Daniel Flynn and Sean Moriarty all kicking fine scores as they seized the initiative as the game progressed.

The excellent O Cróinín and substitute Fionan Motherway pointed to leave the contest on a knife-edge entering injury time, with McNamee settling the issue with a cracking point from 40 metres with the last kick of the game.
