McHugh the DCU star

NA FIANNA forward Conor McHugh hit 1-5 from play as DCU eased past NUIG in their Sigerson Cup opener at St Brigid's grounds in Blanchardstown yesterday.

Niall Moyna's men won by 4-15 to 0-11 with the Dublin U21 topping the scoring charts, while Wicklow's in-form Conor McGraynor bagged 1-2, and Michael Quinn and Gary Kelly (penalty) also scored goals.

Champions DIT meanwhile beat St Mary's by a single point, 2-11 to 1-13, with Kevin O'Brien contributing two points from wing-back.

Elsewhere, GMIT ousted hosts Queen's on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-8, UCC beat Trinity College by 1-14 to 1-7 and Cork IT scored 2-12 to IT Carlow's 0-8.
