Lyn makes mums go gaga for the game

EVERY little thing they do is magic.

That's the good folks behind the ladies football boom.

Lyn Savage is regional games development officer. She has to look after 10 counties.

Lyn is busy, but she's thrilled that the game continues to expand.

"Thankfully, every programme we do is grasped. And that's from nursery level to the Gaelic4Mothers.

"People want to get involved. The numbers are soaring."

The Gaelic4Mothers initiative is still top of the pops.

"It's one of the most popular initiatives we ever did," relates Lyn.

"We never expected it to become as big as it is -- 550 mothers came to our Blitz Day.

"Clubs have just bought into it.

"So many of those mothers are now helping out in the clubs, so that's another positive development.

"It was wonderful that some of the mothers from St Sylvester's and Whitehall Colmcille got to play in Croke Park on our All-Ireland final day."

Lyn and her colleagues are always on the lookout for more big office smash hits.

"Definitely," she says. "We want the growth to keep going. And happily that's what's happening with new clubs coming on board and more and more teams."

Well done Na Fianna U13s on your well organised Cake Sale in aid of the Haiti Fund.

We hear that newcomers Ranelagh Gaels had a little social outing last Friday and are hard at training for the season ahead.

And finally... There will be a refresher course for referees in Parnell Park on April 13. It is intended to invite all referees on the existing panel and also those who have completed the Grab Your Whistle courses over the past two years. Other GAA/Camogie referees who are interested in officiating at Ladies Games should also contact the Referee Coordinator, Dave McCabe. Please bring this to the attention of the referees affiliated with your club.
