Lucan Sarsfields sprang a mild surprise as they edged Kilmacud Crokes by 0-16 to 1-12 in their Dublin SHC 'A' quarter-final at Parnell Park yesterday afternoon.

Crokes failed to reach the heights of the group stages as they struggled for scores throughout despite a lively start that featured two points from Fergal Whitely.

Lucan were far more economical and despite playing into the breeze, only trailed by 0-9 to 0-8 at the break with Ben Coffey scoring five points.

A 35th minute Cillian Murray save from a Ronan Hayes penalty added further momentum to Lucan's challenge and with Chris Crummey inspiring his side with five points from play, Lucan prevailed despite a late goal from Hayes (free).

On Saturday afternoon. Donal Burke was in sparkling form as he helped Na Fianna to comprehensively account for Faughs by 4-20 to 2-10.

The mercurial Dublin attacker matched the Faughs tally of 2-10 with 2-6 of that contribution coming from open play as Na Fianna controlled matters but for an untidy spell either side of the first water break.

The Glasnevin outfit raced from the blocks thanks to a brace of scores by Seán Currie and Burke added another point before Faughs opened their account through a seventh minute free from Carl O'Mahony.

The Na Fianna pressure continued as AJ Murphy, Burke and Martin Quilty tagged on points but some sloppy play at the back was punished in the 14th minute as Ciarán Brennan handed Faughs a lifeline with a well-taken goal.

Worse was to follow for Na Fianna as more defensive woes saw O'Mahony fire home a second goal to edge Faughs 2-1 to 0-6 in front but any momentum that those goals generated was quickly eroded as Burke netted in the 23rd minute to help build a 1-11 to 2-3 interval lead for the St Mobhi Road side who will face Ballyboden in their semi-final.

The contest was effectively settled within five minutes of the restart following further goals by Michael Murphy and Quilty while Burke put the finishing touches to an excellent individual display with a fourth Na Fianna goal five minutes from time.
