St Anne's started and finished strongly to narrowly get the better of Ballinteer St John's by 1-9 to 0-11 in their enthralling Dublin SFC second round clash at O'Toole Park last Saturday teatime.
The quality on offer may have been patchy at times but there was no doubting the commitment and excitement served by these two well-matched teams, with Conor Leigh's 58th-minute point proving the difference between the sides by the end.
It seemed unlikely that such a tight match would ensue after a lively start by the Bohernabreena club which saw Scott Fulham open the lead with a 2nd minute point.
With St John's struggling with the initial aerial assault on their full-back line, Fulham pounced for the game's only goal two minutes later as he raced onto Daniel Watson's adroit flick before firing an emphatic finish past Colm O'Donnell from ten yards.
Ballinteer eventually found their feet through placed balls from Peter O'Curry and Breandán Ó Coillearáin, with substitute Stephen Fitzsimons tightening the defence after replacing the injured O'Curry.
Trailing by 1-5 to 0-6 at the break, St John's inched ahead through Luke Naughton and Glen Whelan but Anne's replied through Fulham and Watson before Leigh's late intervention.
