King Henry set for top scorer crown

'NOT sportsmanlike' or not, Henry Shefflin is set to top the scorers charts this season -- barring a dream final replay from his accuser, Joe Canning.

The man going for a record ninth All-Ireland medal stands atop the list of the 2012 Championship's most prolific marksmen, seven ahead of Limerick's Shane Dowling and nine ahead of the only fellow participant in Sunday's replay in the top 10, Galway's Canning.

Not that we're saying big Joe isn't capable of sticking a handy 1-10 or 2-7 or some such bounty past the Kilkenny defence ... just the chances of Shefflin failing to register a mid-size tally to put him over the edge is somewhat remote.

If only he'd got a decent goal chance last day ...

Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny) 3-47 (56)

Shane Dowling (Limerick) 4-37 (49)

Patrick Horgan (Cork) 1-42 (45)

Joe Canning (Galway) 2-41 (47)

Pa Bourke (Tipperary) 2-29 (35)

Shane Dooley (Offaly) 4-21 (33)

Willie Hyland (Laois) 1-26 (29)

Diarmuid Lyng (Wexford) 1-25 (28)

Niall O'Brien (Westmeath) 2-20 (26)

Maurice Shanahan (Waterford) 0-24 (24)
