King Conal's regal return

CATCH 22 on the Firhouse Road on Saturday evening.

Thirteen minutes gone and David Curtin had to go off injured. The number 22 came on.

It was Conal Keaney. With his first touch, he sent a scorcher over the bar at the score-board end.

He finished with 2-5 in the kitty, all from play. Every little thing he did was magic.

How the Clare champion would love him in his team. Conal's control and timing were pure velvet. It looked like he had spent the summer at the timber.

"He only had his first hurling training session with us last Wednesday night and he scored five points off Malachy Travers," said Boden boss, Liam Hogan.

"That was some announcement that he was back. Conal is a good lad, and even when he's playing the football he's around the place here with us.

"He always has a hurley in his hand. He's a superb hurler. He's just so good at both sports."

Even the opposition were praising King Keaney. They themselves were crippled with injuries.

"We were happy with the two points, but Pat's were suffering badly from injuries," remarked Liam Hogan.

"Pat's are getting better and better. They had a good draw against Faughs. They are doing excellent work at Pat's and they'll be back."

Liam Rushe showed some nimble stick work. He cracked over the opening score after just 30 seconds.

Keaney's first goal came in the 20th minute. The sliotar rose to the basket at the speed of sound.

Conor McCormack's strike to the roof brought the second and it enabled the hosts to lead 2-10 to 0-7 at the turn.

Jimmy Doody knocked in the third seven minutes into the restart. A minute later, Keaney took a ball in flight, turned and, as cool as you like, calmly found the fridge door. He makes the craft look easy.
