Kellett's goal proves key as Brigid's put Pat's to sword

ST BRIGID'S 1-20, ST PATRICK'S (P) 1-17 - O'TOOLE PARK was rocking ... and rolling. Saturday Afternoon Fever. Thirteen times they were level. High drama, and high quality hurling.

Brigid's into the semi-final of the Dublin SHC, but only by the skin of a sliotar. Pat's returned to Palmerstown with pride, and with a song in their heart. Noel Sweeney's sumptuous sideline had the Crumlin crowd lighting their cigars.

People were saying the pitch never looked better. And this game poured custard and cream all over it. Pat's wore green shirts, Brigid's were in white.

It was grey and chilly. Alan Nolan was doing a Stephen Cluxton. He converted three monster frees. His distribution belonged to An Post.

The tempo never dipped. Brigid's had to use every sinew to win it. With three minutes remaining, the sides were still tied. Then three Brigid's points took them home.

Pat's brought such a zest to the duel. They began well, and they maintained their focus all through. Brigid's were never given any handy car-parking spaces.

It was 0-9 each at the turn. Pat's got the opening goal eight minutes into the second period at the road end. Aidan Glennon cracked it in. Nolan only had half a hurley in his hand. He broke his stick seconds earlier making a brilliant stop from the splendid Shane Stapleton.

Brigid's struck for their goal in the 48th minute. They certainly needed it. It was Ciarán Kellett who got it following a pass from Pat Rohan. Kellett made a big impact coming off the bench.

A Stapleton point from play brought parity for the last time. And then came those three precious points in two minutes from Paul Winters (free), Daire Plunkett and Dara Doyle. Ger Ryan could take out a hamlet.
