Kehoe Shield provides Fingal with dress rehearsal for June date

THE Fingal hurlers are in Louth tonight where they'll meet Armagh in the semi-final of the Kehoe Shield at Darver (8.0).

"It will be a tough test for us and we'll also play Armagh away in the first round of the Nicky Rackard Cup in June," says Fingal manager, Denis Murphy. Last Wednesday, Fingal fell to DCU by seven points, 3-16 to 3-9, in the Kehoe Cup at Páirc Ciceam. "We were pleased enough with that display, and then DCU almost beat Meath, who are the Nicky Rackard champions," added Murphy.

"We are getting back into the swing of it after the bad weather and so forth, and we are gearing up for our first game in Division 3B of the National League at home to Wicklow in Swords on February 21.

"This time of the year is all about giving players a run, and trying a few different combinations, and we'll be doing that again tonight.

"Armagh will be strong. But, looking at the results in the Kehoe Cup, it's difficult enough to get an accurate form guide. The results haven't been consistent in that regard."

Armagh were well beaten by Kildare in the Kehoe Cup (5-22 to 2-13) before recording a victory over Trinity College in the Shield (4-13 to 0-6).

Murphy added: "We'd be delighted with the win, but it's more about getting back up to speed and giving fellas a chance."
