Jayo turns on the style to inspire Plunkett's to victory over 'Nells

JASON SHERLOCK showed his magic still shines as brightly as ever when inspiring Plunkett's to victory in last night's AFL Division 1 action. Jayo scored four points from play as well opening the door for two goals as St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh defeated Parnell's 3-8 to 1-11.

On Kiltipper Road Thomas Davis secured two important league points when holding off St Vincent's, 1-13 to 1-10.

And a good game it was. Drops of rainfall in Tallaght. The ball skidding along the hard surface. The hosts well in control in the first half. Shane McGrath prospered at midfield. Eoin Behan was Lord of the Manor at centre half-back. Niall Brogan was showing his class. By the 27th minute, the home team were ahead by 0-8 to 0-3.

That eight point was one of the best of the hour. McGrath found Ciarán Farrelly and, without even looking at the posts he turned to pop over from distance. Behan then had to retire injured. A minute from the break, the busy Ciarán Dorney nudged in a deflected Vincent's goal after Adam Baxter's place kick had tumbled back off the post. Baxter impressed, kicking five points, four from frees. Mossy was looking on.

Baxter's second free saw only a point between them at the break - 0-8 to 1-4 for Thomas Davis. An elegant Pádraig Lee point had them level a minute into the restart.

The Marino men were beginning to get on top. They were winning plenty of possession in and around the engine room. They hit three without reply, two from Mick Concarr, plus a Baxter free.

Davis' were in a spot of bother. They produced the shovels. Brogan landed a gem. Farrelly brought it back to a point -- 1-8 to 0-10. Baxter and Paddy O'Connor exchange frees.

Then came the crucial moment, 47 minutes gone. Farrelly finds McGrath, who is racing in on goal. He is adjudged to have been fouled. Penalty. Farrelly couldn't have struck the kick any sweeter, high to the right-hand corner, past Dublin's Michael Savage.

Davis' now in front by 1-11 to 1-9. Baxter converts another free, but returns from Dáithí Ryan and Joey O'Reilly inch the TDs home.
