Hungry little fella' chips in on team talk

GERRY GREHAN used to referee in Dublin. He has also been involved with various management set-ups in the capital.

He writes a charming column in the Wicklow Times. Last week he dealt with the various styles of pre-match talks that managers use.

Some bang the table, others are as calm as the Giller. Gerry tells the tale of one manager giving a pep talk to his young team. He was giving it socks, roaring at the top of his voice on the importance of the match to the club, the families, the pride of the parish and anything else that came into his mind.

At the end of his emotional address, he asked the squad had they any questions. One little fellow put up his hand.

'Are we stopping for chips on the way home?'
