Gavin's men set for Saturday night opener

IN something of a break with tradition Dublin's senior footballers will open the defence of their Leinster SFC on a Saturday when they face Westmeath or Carlow on June 1.

The Dubs, under new boss Jim Gavin, will face the winners of the Westmeath/Carlow tie in the familiar surrounds of Croke Park on Saturday evening (7.0), June 1 as part of an attractive Leinster SFC double-header with Offaly and Kildare (5.0).

The provincial football semi-final dates have not been finalised yet, however, the final will take place in Croke Park on Sunday, July14.

Anthony Daly's Dublin hurlers face a road trip for their 2013 Leinster SHC opener against Wexford next June. The Dubs have been fixed to face the Slaneysiders in Wexford Park on Sunday, June 8 after the Leinster Council fixed the dates and venues for next summer's action.

Reigning All-Ireland U21 football champions Dublin, under new manager Dessie Farrell, will have home advantage against Carlow in Parnell Park on Wednesday, February 20 as they begin the defence of their provincial and All-Ireland crowns. If they progress past the Barrowsiders they will face Longford in a quarter-final, again at the Donnycarney venue, on Wednesday, March 6.

Dublin's under-21 hurlers open their Leinster campaign with a home game against Carlow (Parnell Park, Wednesday, June 5)

The capital's minor footballers open the defence of their Leinster and All-Ireland titles away against Louth in Haggardstown on Saturday, April 13.
