Gavin is keeping the door ajar for Mannion

JIM GAVIN insists that Paul Mannion (above) could play a role in Dublin's quest for championship glory this summer - even though he's still out of the country.

The 2013 All-Ireland winner missed the entirety of the Allianz League because his UCD business studies had taken him to China for the last university year.

The jet-heeled attacker has finished that leg of his studies, and Dublin boss Jim Gavin yesterday revealed that he is currently in North America but "on his way back".

Gavin has spoken to Mannion and reiterated that there is still a potential route back into the county set-up this summer.

As Dublin operate off an open championship panel, the Kilmacud Crokes man still has a chance to get back into the frame if he can showcase good club form in the Dublin AFL.

"There are club games on Wednesday night that we will be scouting for some players we have our eye on. Same rule applies for any player who is away, that comes back into the country," Gavin (below) explained, adding: "The league games are quite competitive in Dublin."
