Garda issue penalty blow on Lucan

Garda delivered a storming final ten minutes to claim the Dublin Intermediate 'B' Football Championship title following their 1-9 to 0-10 success over Lucan Sarsfields in Parnell Park last Sunday afternoon.

The pivotal score arrived in the 54th minute as full-back Denis Ellard confidently despatched a penalty to level matters after Lucan had largely dominated the third quarter to pull three points clear.

The winners maintained their momentum for the closing stages with late scores by Richie Lynch and Damian McGing helping to seal their triumph.

The sides were well-matched from the first whistle with Dabhach Dineen opening the scoring for Garda after three minutes.

Shane Quinn restored parity for Lucan soon after and the tightness of the early exchanges were highlighted as Lynch and James O'Neill traded scores.

A brace of frees by the impressive Willie Skelly and another score from Damian Quirke offered Garda some breathing space but O'Neill added a brace of his own to add to a Declan O'Shaughnessy free as the sides entered the break deadlocked at 0-5 apiece.

Sarsfields were dominant upon the restart and they pushed ahead thanks to scores by Peter Carroll and O'Shaughnessy but a Gareth Moran free helped regain Garda's equilibrium as they saw the game out through positive contributions by Ellard, Donie O'Connell, wing-back Ronan Mulligan, Dinneen, Skelly and Moran.

The win follows on the back of a Joy Cup success achieved earlier in the year by Brian Talty's charges.
