Galway stars hoping for shot at redemption

PORTUMNA may have suffered All-Ireland final heartache in Croke Park last March but they'll be hoping for some capital redemption at the Meteor-sponsored Kilmacud Crokes Hurling Sevens this weekend.

The Galway kingpins lost their All-Ireland crown to arch rivals Ballyhale Shamrocks, whose star names will be to the fore of Kilkenny's quest for five-in-a-row at Croker on Sunday. As a tasty appetiser, though, Portumna will seek some sevens glory on Dublin's southside tomorrow, with an all-star cast including Joe and Ollie Canning, Damien Hayes and several more Galway panellists.

Two time winners Patrickswell have named 2007 All Star goalkeeper Brian Murray in their line up; fellow Limerick team Murroe Boher will include 2007 Young Hurler of the Year Seamus Hickey; while Adare, led by Mark Foley, will further boost the Shannonside challenge.

The competition will commence at 10:30 tomorrow morning with quarter-finals to be staged in Páirc De Burca, Glenalbyn from 2.30, semi-finals from 5.0 and the final itself at 6.45pm.
