THE GAA have rejected a proposal from the country’s top hurling teams and the 2012 NHL Division 1 will be contested by two groups of six as originally planned.
A decision taken at the August Central Council meeting to switch from one division of eight teams to two divisions of six was upheld last night by 22 votes to 14. The decision needed to be rescinded for the eight team division to be restored or for the CCCC proposal to introduce quarter-finals to the two groups of six.
The GAA’s management committee then decided to introduce an amendment to the August decision and proposed that semi-finals be introduced into the format.
The winners of Division 1B will join the top three teams in 1A in the semi-finals and the Division 1B final must be played in advance of these semi-finals.
