Flanagan returns to his Faithful

PAT FLANAGAN is on the cusp of becoming Offaly football manager - possibly as early as tonight.

The odds on the Offaly native shortened at the weekend after Sligo officially began their search for a replacement due to "continued uncertainty" over Flanagan's availability.

Ahead of tonight's county board meeting, an Offaly spokesperson cautioned: "At the moment it's not clearcut if a name will come forward. There are issues still to be addressed, I understand - they may resolve themselves during the day."

Elsewhere, whoever succeeds Jim McGuinness will be able to call on long-serving Donegal midfielder Neil Gallagher, who has scotched any retirement speculation.
