First-half goals see Jude's defeat Barrs

TWO first-half goals from John Ryan and Danny Sutcliffe proved crucial as St Jude's overcame Naomh Fionnbarra by four points in their relegation play-off encounter in the Bogies on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors opened up impressively through a brace of points apiece by Ciarán Mangan and Stephen Larkin and the two goals pushed the Tymon men 2-7 to 0-6 ahead by the interval. The hosts responded well after the break through the dead-ball prowess of Stephen Costello, while the lively Eamonn Dillon offered Fionnbarra brief hope with a well-taken goal.

However, St Jude's closed the game out well with the displays of Sutcliffe, Gareth Roche, Alan O'Beirne, Neal Mangan and Paul Maguire central to their win.

The Cabra men will be joined in the Senior 'B' championship by St Vincent's as Ballinteer St John's caused a mild surprise in overcoming Vins by 0-13 to 1-9 at Marlay Park.

In such a low-scoring encounter, defences were largely on top with Cathal Billings and Willie Lowry excelling at centre-back and full-back respectively for the visitors while Cormac O'Brien and Frank O'Donoghue were similarly inspirational for St John's.

With Vincent's three points clear thanks to scores from Tomás Connolly, Mossy McGrane and John Hetherton, the Marino men were rocked by the harsh dismissal of Diarmuid Connolly (two yellows) with Ballinteer taking full advantage through defining scores from Jack Gilligan, Fergal Chambers, Glenn Whelan and Aodhán Clabby.
