Fingal begin new chapter in the National League

FINGAL are preparing to take flight in Division 3B of the National Hurling League. Home to Louth in Swords tomorrow.

Then it's away to Tyrone and London, home to Longford and Roscommon and away again to Donegal. "As far as the away games are concerned, we are definitely taking the scenic route," quips Fingal manager, Denis Murphy.

The Wee county will be a big test. "I know we beat them in the Kehoe Cup, but they will be a different animal in the National League," judges Denis.

"They were missing a few guys when they played us, including a really good forward, Diarmuid Murphy. When he's around, he makes a big difference to them."

Fingal have to plan without Emmet McCabe, Gary de Loughrey and Dara De Búrca. Eoin Power had a leg injury, but he's expected to make it.

De Búrca was selected on the Nicky Rackard All-Star team last season after Fingal reached the semi-final.

"The management and squad sat down at the end of last season and we had a wish then to go into the National League," reveals Denis.

"It's good to play at National League level, and it will also be excellent preparation for the Rackard. There's a great interest in the squad and we are all set to get going now."
