Elliott and O'Tighe fire Ballymun past Crokes

BALLYMUN Kickhams preserved their unbeaten start to the year as they overcame Kilmacud Crokes by 2-6 to 0-11 in their Dublin Minor Football League Division 1 encounter at Páirc Ciceam last Sunday morning.

The hosts struggled to show their fluency from their previous two wins against a Crokes outfit that enjoyed a healthy amount of possession.

However, Kickhams remained in touch through the efforts of Aaron Elliott and centre-forward Cathal O'Tighe and it was that duo who struck the crucial goals as Ballymun enjoy top spot in the table.

They are joined on six points by Na Fianna, who produced a wind-assisted, second-half comeback to overtake previously unbeaten Ballyboden St Enda's by 1-10 to 0-9 at Páirc Uí Mhurchú.

The hosts started in the ascendancy with Colm Basquel, Barry McGarry and Dara Langan hitting early points but the visitors' ability to score into the wind ensured they trailed by just 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

Despite Boden pushing 0-9 to 0-5 ahead after the break, Na Fianna, who were missing a number of key personnel, finished strongly and after Langan was unlucky to see his shot rattle the crossbar, the visitors confirmed their win with a late penalty.

At Kiltipper Road, Chris Sallier and Noel McGill were hugely influential at midfield as Thomas Davis enjoyed a comprehensive 1-17 to 2-7 victory over Clontarf.

Dublin minor Sallier struck 1-7 of his side's tally and with Gary Cummins and Jordan McKenna to the fore defensively, the hosts claimed their win through Éanna O'Toole and Eric Rowan points.

"That is the best we have played for a long time," said Davis manager Enda O'Toole. "It was good to claim our first league win of the year and we're happy with that."
