Dub clubmen out to prove a Poc Fada hit in Howth

THE Dublin Poc Fada competition takes place this Friday. The competition will go over the scenic hill of Howth from Sutton to the Beann Eadair club.

The winner will proceed to the Leinster final and the chance to make the All-Ireland final in the Cooleys in August.

Among those going for gold are Lar Sweetman (Naomh Fionnbarra), Keith Manley (St Peregrine's), Dylan Wilkins (Erin's Isle), Mikey Ryan (Faughs), Darren Renehan (Setanta), Damian Gallagher (St Patrick's (P)), Ger McManus (St Jude's), Gavin Dillon (Commercials), Canice Dowling (Cuala) and Cormac Ryan (Whitehall Colmcille).

All are welcome to attend this unique event. Parking will be available at the Beann Eadair club, Páirc O Ruairc, on the Balkill Road. Arrive for 7pm.

THE 16th Gerard Canavan tournament runs from this Saturday to Friday, July 5 at the Ayrfield home of O'Toole's. Some 28 clubs are taking part in the annual festival that celebrates the memory of the gifted young sportsman.

Dublin Fringe Festival is to stage a show in September about Dublin GAA and Hill 16. A Belgian theatre company are behind the production. They did something similar on football fans from Gent FC in their home country.

THE Castleknock GAA club are holding a Fun Quiz in Kavanagh's pub this Friday (8.30pm). A table of four costs €40.

THE FODH buses to Portlaoise on Saturday will leave Connolly Station at 3.45pm and the Poitin Stil at 4.15pm. To book, text name and pick up point to 087-2331983 by 6pm on Thursday. Adults €10, juveniles €5. The buses will return immediately after the game is over.
