Doyle strike puts Brigid's into top spot

GOALS from Cathal Doyle and Mark Cahill helped St Brigid's assume top spot in the Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 table following their 2-11 to 1-10 victory over Thomas Davis at Kiltipper Road yesterday.

Cahill, returning after a cruciate injury, hit 1-2 for the visitors, who were indebted to Graham Norton, Cian Mullins and six points from Lorcan McCarthy in prevailing by four points.

The Blanchardstown men lead the league following Ballymun Kickhams' 5-8 to 3-4 win over previous leaders St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh at Martin Savage Park.

Both Ted Furman, who had a superb game, and Kevin Leahy plundered two goals apiece for the county champions and with Derek Byrne scoring a fifth goal, the visitors eased to victory with full-back Sean Moore, Fiach Andrews and the roving Philip McMahon featuring prominently.

On Saturday evening, Stephen Duffy scored 1-3 on his full senior debut as Parnell's registered a comfortable 4-14 to 0-10 victory over bottom side Lucan Sarsfields at Chanel College.

Duffy combined superbly in attack with Conor Mortimer, with the former Mayo star amassing 1-5, while Colm Begley, Jonathan Bealin, Darren Rooney and Willie Henry all contributed handsomely to the hosts' win.

The scoring honours of the weekend fell to St Anne's, who followed up their four goals on Wednesday evening by recording an emphatic 6-15 to 1-13 success over Fingallians in their AFL2 clash at Bohernabreena.

Minor Lee O'Brien and centre-forward Adam Doran both hit 2-1 for the hosts, while 2011 Dublin minor Scott Fulham struck 2-3 for a St Anne's side that had similarly strong displays from both Trevor Connolly and Darren Fulham.

Ballinteer St John's remain top of the pile in Division 2 as they maintained their superb recent form with a 1-13 to 0-8 win over Kilmacud Crokes at Silver Park.
