Daly's future in the balance

ANTHONY Daly's future as Dublin hurling manager could hinge on his willingness to accept a three-year extension to his tenure.

County chairman Andy Kettle insisted yesterday: "I don't think a year's extension is what's required for Dublin hurling going forward. I think it's a three-year project," adding that presently, the board were not actively seeking a replacement.

However, Daly has yet to give any indication as to whether he wants to continue as manager of Dublin after a season in which the team surrendered their Leinster crown meekly to Kilkenny and exited the Championship after a similarly bad performance against Tipperary.

"I would ask are there many people to look at?" Kettle added.

"I'm not saying there's nobody else. But top managers like Anthony Daly are thin on the ground."
