ANTHONY DALY says he plans to contact Ciarán Kilkenny as soon as the dual starlet has completed his Leaving Cert exams after the Castleknock prodigy publicly declared his ambition to play for both the Dublin senior hurlers and footballers this summer.
Daly, who spoke to Kilkenny’s father, John, at the turn of the year about the possibility of immediate graduation to the senior squad after last year's minor exploits, insisted he was “keeping an open mind” about the player lining out in both codes.
“I had a long chat with John over the phone at Christmas and I just said ‘look, we would love to have Ciarán on the panel as soon as he’s finished his Leaving Cert’,” explained Daly, who added that Kilkenny's decision to turn down a two-week stint with Carlton Blues during the summer had come as a surprise and could yet facilitate his involvement in both the under-21 and senior hurlers respective campaigns.
“I wasn’t aware of that until I saw it in the paper,” added Daly. “But I didn’t want to be putting pressure on him doing his Leaving Cert. As soon as his Leaving Cert is over, we will absolutely get in touch.
“He’s a precocious talent in both codes but he’s a fantastic hurler. He’s very strong. We would love to have him on board as well.
“When the Leaving Cert is over, I will certainly be making a call and if he felt he could do both over the summer, we would do our best to accommodate that.”
Daly added: “We would absolutely love to have Ciarán. I just read that he would love to do both and we would definitely love to give him that option. We would certainly keep an open mind about it.”
