Crumlin turn up volume

St John's beaten in Parnell Park duel

CRUMLIN ............................. 3-14

BALLINTEER ST JOHN'S ........... 3-8

BEFORE the off, two huddles. No time for cuddles. There was pressing business to attend to. A sharp Saturday pace at HQ. Small crowd.

Ballinteer began briskly. Aodhán Clabby flashed the ball to the sack at the scoreboard end as early as the second minute. Joe Maher's picture point was the pick of the crop.

Gradually, Crumlin, last year's semi-finalists, began to have more of a say in this Parnell Park duel. Wes O'Brien was full of purpose at midfield. A neat finisher too.

Finding

He combined with Shane Ryan to open the door for Colm Hennebry's goal in the 22nd minute.

Adam McGreal was finding the range off the tee and green. Crumlin were ahead at the turn, 1-7 to 1-6.

Ryan was also involved in the second goal, which was scored by Ben Quinn, six minutes into the second half.

Three quick points from the impressive McGreal (2) and Shane Martin granted Crumlin an eight-point advantage.

On 46 minutes, a delicious strike from Jack ó Giollagáin brought a second goal, and some hope, for the Marlay men. But three minutes later, a storming run and finish from Conor Murphy earned Crumlin's third goal.

In injury-time, Ciarán Lane produced Ballinteer St John's third goal. Yet at that stage, it was all over ... even the shouting.
